'Weird Al', Jack Black, Aisha Tyler And More Take On Pharrell In 'Tacky'

The eight days of weirdness begin here

Say what you will about "Weird Al" Yankovic — at least the man is moving with the times.

In days gone by, it was possible for the alternately renowned/reviled parodist to stick to the traditional album cycle without too much damage being done to his sales prospects, but with the internet being, well, the internet, he can no longer afford to wait for nine months to complete an album while YouTube steals all the good parodies before he even has a chance to drop a single.

It is in acknowledgement of this, then, that with the just-released Mandatory Fun — Yankovic's fourteenth studio full-length, and last required album under his existing label deal — he has chosen to make up for time lost during the writing and recording process by dropping eight videos over eight days, with the first effort, Tacky — a parody of Pharrell Williams' phenomenally popular Happy (called it!) — hitting the web overnight.

Conscripting the comedic and (over)acting talents of personalities such as Jack Black, Archer's Aisha Tyler, career funnywoman Margaret Cho, Kristen Schaal (Flight Of The Conchords, The Daily Show) and Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet, Yankovic breezes through three-and-a-bit minutes of all things visually and audibly tacky, from socks'n'sandals get-ups to people who never let other people forget the favours they're owed.

It's typically "Weird Al", through and through, and is sure to delight anyone who's ever had a soft spot for the curly-haired, polka-loving, largely inoffensive humourist.

Yankovic has got seven more videos in the pipeline — including parodies of Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines, Lorde's Royals, and Iggy Azalea's Fancy — to celebrate Mandatory Fun's release, but, honestly, we'd be stoked with just one more, for polka-medley track NOW That's What I Call Polka!, featuring do-overs for Miley Cyrus, Foster The People, One Direction, Psy, Gotye and Daft Punk, among several others.
