It's a smorgasbord of sound for electronic-music lovers

Renowned Sydney-based underground venue Chinese Laundry has announced that, from August 1, it will host a brand new music programme, the results of a fledgling partnership with Soapbox Events, the famed functions arm of the Ministry Of Sound.

The extensive programme includes two new weekly nights (BASSIC and LNDRY), two new monthly events (KLPARTY and BOSS BASS), a host of rising residents, garden parties and a regiment of unrivalled local and international headliners such as Motez, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Mercer and Anklepants. An aesthetic revamp is on the cards as well, with four of the country's premier street artists getting involved to give Chinese Laundry a neon-drenched artistic overhaul, curated by Brett Chan alongside Kyle Montgomery and Days One.

Every Friday from August 1, BASSIC will take over the venue to showcase the newest and most impressive names from across the bass spectrum, including from Future, Australian Sound, Trap, D&B and Bounce.

The first such night will be headlined by UK D&B luminaries Drumsounds & Bassline Smith, before BASSIC broadens its horizons to include the two monthly events – the first curated by BOSS BASS (featuring names such as Hatch, Hydraulix, Chenzo and Autoclaws) and the second, KLPARTY, coming courtesy of KLP of triple j's House Party.

The second weekly event, LNDRY, will have its first night on Saturday, August 2, to be headlined by incendiary Aussie tunesmith Motez. In contrast to BASSIC, the three-room LNDRY will put its focus on cutting-edge house, techno, electro and deep house acts, featuring everyone from local risers to international juggernauts.

And, as intimated previously, Chinese Laundry will see the return of its infamous Garden Parties, in the Slip Inn courtyard, which are due to return in Spring for a fresh series of unmissable outdoor concerts.

“We are thrilled to extend our relationship with Merivale and be part of the next chapter of Sydney's most loved and longstanding venue,” Ministry Of Sound's Tim McGee said in a statement.

“With a refocus on the music that matters most to Sydney's discerning club crowd, we want to bring the cream of cutting edge underground artists and local residents who form the backbone of the club community, along with the return of genre pioneers”.
