Breakout Melbourne singer/songwriter Vance Joy – real name James Keogh – has taken home the prestigious APRA Award peer-voted Song Of The Year gong at tonight's awards.

Riptide – a track that has gained traction both locally and overseas – was also awarded the Pop Work of the year while Sia Furler was recognised as the Songwriter Of The Year thanks to her emergence as one of the American pop music industry's go-to writers. South Australian Furler was named as one of the Australian industry's most powerful persons in last year's AMID Power 50 for the same reason.

Birds Of Tokyo also picked up two awards for Lanterns with the Rock Work and Most Played Australian work while Flume, Lee Kernaghan, John Butler Trio and Bliss N Eso also picked up genre awards.

Dutch songwriter Louis Schoorl, who co-wrote 88 songs in 2013 and has worked with 360, Daniel Johns and Jessica Mauboy, was named Breakthrough Songwriter.

Held in Brisbane for the first time in the awards' history there were performances from Sheppard, Gossling & Colin Hay, Melody Pool & Ben Salter, Kirin J Callinan, Megan Washington, Ted Albert Award recipient Lindy Morrison, Amanda Brown, Robert Vickers & Big Scary and more.
