The difference between house and down-home

More Kevin Devine More Kevin Devine

Congratualtions are in order for independent Aussie label Hobbledehoy Records, which has very recently begun working as the Australian/New Zealand distributor for Brooklyn-bred indie-folk troubadour Kevin Devine.

To celebrate the coup, theMusic.com.au is exceedingly proud to present the world-exclusive premiere of a previously unreleased remix of Devine's track Redbird, as reworked by US musician Sombear - aka Bradley Hale of Now, Now fame.

Have a listen to the re-imagined cut below, and enjoy being among the very first in the world to do so:

Devine, who has long been championed by Long Island indie heroes Brand New as one of New York's best musicians, released his dual 2013 albums Bulldozer and Bubblegum (with The Goddamn Band) via Hobbledehoy in April this year (get Bulldozer physically or digitally).

Both records - the simultaneous release and consciously disparate vibes of which recall Bright Eyes' I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and Digital Ash In A Digital Urn double release in 2005 - are the result of a concerted crowdfunding campaign that saw Devine raise a whopping $114,000 towards production.

Devine is a two-time visitor to our shores, having graced the country's stages for both the Soundwave and Harvest festivals in previous years. Be sure to keep an eye out on his Facebook page for future announcements that may shed some light on when he will return Down Under.
