There will be a month-long 'festival' in bittersweet celebration
Beloved South Brisbane haunt The Joynt will shut its doors for good on June 30, the venue has revealed.
The unfortunate turn of events is a development that echoes the closure earlier this year of mainstay Brisbane establishment the Tempo Hotel, though, in contrast to that shutdown, there is no council dispute at the heart of The Joynt's exit; the landlord simply does not wish to renew the lease, according to the post.
"Yesterday the Joynt got some sad news. The landlord wants us out by June 30 – the lease will NOT be renewed," the venue wrote. "We are approaching the end of an era. As there are only 23 days left to celebrate the Joynt's existence, the plan is to create an ongoing festival for the month of June."
In light of the impending closure, the venue has adjusted its opening hours; it'll now be welcoming punters from midday to midnight, seven days a week, with live music all day(!) on Saturdays and Sundays, and after 6pm during the week.
