The band explain why they chose to cover 'Killing In The Name'
Brisbane prog-rockers Dead Letter Circus made a bold move last week for their appearance on triple j's Like A Version, tackling the classic Rage Against The Machine track Killing In The Name, garnering both good and bad criticism in the aftermath of the cover.
In a post on their Facebook overnight, DLC said that "aside from the fact that Rage Against The Machine is collectively one of our favourite bands of all time", they felt the influential and controversial protest anthem was "relevant" to the current state of the world, and in particular, Australia.
"In our opinion, RATM have been shouting at us all for years to wake up to the fact we live within a system of control imposed by a ruling elite," the post read.
"That this system is reliant on generations of programmed fear, prejudice and ignorance to keep us separate and powerless is clear and undeniable. And the lyrics of Killing In the Name are a rallying call-to-action that the path of apathy won't help to dissolve these walls."

The band also revealed that a part of their Killing In The Name performance wasn't aired - their dedication of the track to the Aus government.
"To add one final piece of context to our decision to cover the tune, we should tell you what wasn't included in the Like A Version video being shared around YouTube was our opening on-air dedication of Killing In The Name to Australia's current government. It was like our little love song, if you will, sent out to Tony Abbott and his cronies from DLC and, no doubt, a significant proportion of the Australian public. And if you are living in our country right now that should hopefully make a lot of sense."
DLC are currently on the road playing a bunch of headline shows, with a few intimate, acoustic dates locked in for September. Check out theGuide for details.
