With Kim Churchill landing the highest local debut of the week
British rockers Coldplay have held onto the top spot in the ARIA Albums Chart for the second consecutive week with their latest record Ghost Stories.
As predicted in midweek figures, the Chris Martin-led outfit, who recently announced another show for their upcoming Aus promo tour, held out fellow Brit, soulful singer-songwriter Sam Smith, whose first album In The Lonely Hour debuted at two. The Frozen soundtrack and Michael Jackson's Xscape stayed strong in third and fourth respectively, while Mariah Carey's uniquely titled Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse debuted at five.
Several Aussie albums experienced upward chart action this week too, including current world-beater Iggy Azalea, whose LP The New Classic pushed up from 12 into seventh. Singer-songwriter Russell Morris also enjoyed a chart rise - his record Van Diemen's Land moved from 24 to 15 while Brisbane rockers Violent Soho's Hungry Ghost did jump a few places as expected, if only slightly from 30 to 26. Folk singer Kim Churchill scored the highest local debut of the week - his album Silence/Win entered at 32.
Other debuts this week included: Royksopp & Robyn - Do It Again (14); The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack (19); Cher Lloyd - Sorry I'm Late (23); KISS - KISS 40 (31); The Roots - ...And Then You Shoot Your Cousin (34).
