‘The New Classic’ debuts at an impressive two though

More Iggy Azalea More Iggy Azalea

Mullumbimby-born rapper Iggy Azalea has missed out on this week's number one Australian album, with the now American-based artist debuting at two in the ARIA Albums Chart with her first LP The New Classic.

Despite midweek figures suggesting otherwise and a strong showing overseas, Azalea was pipped by the Frozen soundtrack, which has been a solid feature of the Aus top 10 since January. British pop-rock outfit The Vamps debuted at three with their album Meet The Vamps, meaning that local indie-electro crooner and number one from the past two weeks Chet Faker was bumped down to four with his Built On Glass LP.

As predicted, a couple of current Aus tourists enjoyed chart rises – Canadian singer Michael Buble's To Be Loved re-entered at five, while urban-pop duo MKTO moved into eight on the back of their headline show run. British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran also saw his album + push from 36 to 12 after a week of promotional gigs and appearances in the country.

Aussie Mark Vincent scored an impressive debut with his compilation Best So Far coming in at 17 and New Zealand trio Sol3 Mio were not far behind him – their self-titled album debuted at 20. Other debuts this week came from two important voices in modern rock – Pixies and Blur's Damon Albarn – the former's comeback album Indie Cindy coming in at 21 and the latter's Everyday Robots in at 26. Andre Rieu's Magic Of Musicals debuted at 29 while Bethel Music's You Make Me Brave (Live) scored a first-time entry at 34.

Brisbane indie-pop group Sheppard's reign at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart came to an end, with Sheeran's aforementioned Aus promo tour proving too much for them this week. His track Sing debuted at one, pushing Sheppard's Geronimo down to two.

R&B singer Jason Derulo – who was also in the country this week – maintained his spot at three with his Snoop Dogg collaboration Wiggle. Azalea also made her mark on the Singles Chart this week as well – the rapper features on pop singer Ariana Grande's Problem, which debuted at four. And another Aussie featured in the top five – Darwin's Vassy, who's song with uber-producer David Guetta and Showtek, Bad, pushed into fifth.

Other singles debuts came from UK pop-soul singer Sam Smith, another Aus visitor this past week, who scored an entry of 22 through his single Stay With Me and EDM kingpin Avicii with Lay Me Down in at 34. German duo Milky Chance's Stolen Dance and Pharrell Williams' controversial new track Marilyn Monroe debuted at 35 and 40 respectively.
