They may be renowned for their rough-and-ready rockstar approach to most aspects of life, but the members of Sydneysider four-piece The Jezabels are about to show us their super classy side – perhaps none of them more so than keyboardist Heather Shannon.

As the band prepare to make their debut on one of the world's most exclusive stages – in the Sydney Opera House's Concert Hall – for a pair of shows on Monday and Tuesday to be filled with “soaring epics” and “high romance”, theMusic.com.au has learnt that Shannon will boldly go where few contemporary musicians have gone before, opening the shows by playing a piece on the Opera House's Grand Organ, the largest tracker-action pipe organ in the world.

“This next one's called Anxiety In Red Velvet. Thank you, Opera House!”

Consummate performer that we all know her to be, Shannon is displaying no signs of uncertainty as the big day draws nearer.

“I am extremely excited to be playing the organ at the Opera House,” the talented pianist said in a statement. “It's a rare opportunity and one that I feel very privileged to have.

“I have written a piece for the show called Organ Fantasie, as it came together through a bunch of improvisations and is partly inspired by Bach. It will be a very special moment for me, and I can't wait to share my music!”

The shows will commence at 8pm on both nights, with tickets costing $59 through the Opera House.

The performances form part of Music At The House, an Opera House initiative aimed at strengthening ties between the venue and contemporary musicians. The Jezabels will join the likes of The National, Grizzly Bear and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds among the ranks of participants in the program so far, with future shows booked for Neko Case, Flying Lotus, Yo La Tengo, Neil Finn, Glen Hansard, Iron & Wine, Buddy Guy and Charlie Musselwhite.
