ARIA Hall Of Famer, and all-round local music legend, Russell Morris last year scored his biggest selling album with his Sharkmouth set of Australiana.

This month he has followed it up with Van Diemen's Land, another album further exploring the Australian psyche. Now, Morris is already planning a follow-up. “I definitely want to make a third album," he told The Music's Kane Sutton. "I've got a year of touring now so I probably won't think about writing for a few weeks. I know where I want to go musically but it's about finding the right stories."

However, he added, "If I can't find enough interesting [stories], I'm not just going to do it for the sake of doing it, particularly due to the success of the last one. There needs to be something to follow. I'm just riding the wave and once you're on it, you need to ride it out.”

The music industry had been happy to file Morris under 'heritage' - expected just to play the small club circuit with his back catalogue of hits from the '60s, '70s and '80s. But the popularity of Sharkmouth was unexpected even for Morris, “We pressed 500 copies in cardboard thinking I'd never get a record deal because no one seemed interested – we run the songs to everybody and everyone passed. I was going to sell them at shows to make some money back that I'd spent on recording it."
