More Lorde More Lorde

KIIS breakfast radio host Kyle Sandilands may have proved his ability to win ratings wherever he is today, but his shock jock tactics are no match for Lorde.

Arguably Australia's most-hated radio personality, his shock jock tactics were not enough to catch the 17-year-old New Zealand superstar off guard when he tried to insinuate that Lorde and Taylor Swift were in a lesbian relationship.

In an interview that could have proven to be a horrible media misstep during the promotion of her upcoming tour, Lorde – real name Ella Yelich-O'Connor – kept her cool and refused to be bullied by Sandilands.

“I see you guys' pictures everywhere are you guys together now?” Sandilands asked. “Not together as in lesbians, I'm not talking about 'Ellen [Degeneres] together' I'm talking about, like you guys are friendly right?'”

Lorde retorted, “What do you mean you're not talking about 'Ellen together'? Is there something wrong with lesbians?”

Sandilands kept pushing on the subject, trying to trick the 17-year-old into a confession she wasn't making.

“Oh my god no, I would love that! Are you going to confirm now you're in a lesbian relationship with her?”

But guess who didn't miss a beat.

“Don't even try it,” she told Kyle.

Sandilands went on, “I do love her though, we get along well with her... She's gorgeous, she's very down to earth, right?”

“Uh… yeah,” Lorde responded.

“Don't go too overboard explaining the friendship then,” Sandilands said sarcastically.

Wait for it.

“No I won't, believe me.”

If there was anything actually worth listening to in the interview, it was Lorde saying that she turned down the opportunity to support Katy Perry on her upcoming tour to focus on her own headline shows. She also said she got a "little bit teary" when Bruce Springsteen covered Royals.

There is audio of the interview here, but you have to listen to a whole hour of Kyle Sandilands. Lorde's on about the 58th minute mark.
