Brisbane's Red Deer Festival To Take One Year Hiatus

Boutique Brisbane arts and music festival Red Deer will not take place in 2014, with the event announcing a one-year hiatus as it looks to implement strategies to ensure its longevity at its Foggs Road home.

In a statement released this morning, festival director Julian De Maria revealed the event has to "change the material use of the land" as requested by the Moreton Bay Regional Council.

“The festival has been running off a temporary permit for the first four years and for us to permanently host the event and secure the festival's future, we have to change the material use of the land,” said De Maria.

"We've done everything we can to get through this application process in time for this year's festival, but unfortunately due to the sheer depth of this permit, it hasn't been possible."

Red Deer is slated to return in September 2015, which De Maria assures fans will happen.

“Our priority for Red Deer is to make sure it retains that intimate, community feel that is all about the experience – and not just another festival.

"We're gutted that there's no festival this year, but we'll be back better than ever.”

Last year's event featured performances from the likes of The Grates, The Kite String Tangle, Chance Waters and Kingswood.
