27-year-old man arrested over Ginger Ninja's murder

A 27-year old man has been arrested over the murder of Nicholas Sofer-Schreiber, who was a well known identity of the Canberra and Sydney punk scenes.

Dubbed the 'Ginger Ninja' by friends and bands around the world, 27-year-old Sofer-Schreiber was found dead in his home late last year with multiple stab wounds. As news broke, tributes poured in from all around the world, including from veteran American punk band Strung Out.

Police have confirmed that a suspect was arrested Friday 14 February and was due to face court over the weekend. Detective Superintendent of Criminal Investigations, Paul Shakeshaft said the arrest came after an “intensive and exhaustive” investigation.

According to Fairfax, that the investigation lead them to a property in Grafton, in country New South Wales, while they understand that the suspect was known to the victim.

“For the friends and family of Mr Sofer-Schreiber, we are sorry for your loss, which we know you deal with every day however hope this arrest gives you some peace of mind,” said Superintendent Shakeshaft.

Journalist and former Unpaid Debt frontman Joseph Catanzaro told theMusic.com.au earlier this year, “Nick was the bloke you'd bump into at shows all over the country. He was as much a familiar fixture in Sydney as he was in Canberra. Everybody knew him, and everybody loved him.”
