'The Brink' lands at second

More The Jezabels More The Jezabels

Sydney indie foursome The Jezabels have missed out on landing the number one album in the ARIA chart this week, instead, scoring an impressive second placing for their sophomore album The Brink.

The quartet were hoping to go one better this time round than their second spot debut back in 2012 with Prisoner, but were beaten to the top by urban pop duo MKTO, whose self-titled album entered at one. The Jezabels' Laneway Festival pal Lorde held steady at three with Pure Heroine.

The hype surrounding the INXS mini-series that premieres tomorrow night has done well for the band's greatest hits compilation with The Very Best pushing into fourth spot. Recent Aus tourist Avicii and his album True dropped from first to seventh this week, while CHVRCHES also benefitted from their recent Laneway shows - pushing up into 36 with The Bones Of What You Believe.

As predicted, there were several debuts this week, with Dolly Parton's Blue Smoke leading the way at 10. Other first time entries included You Me At Six's Cavalier Youth (14), Within Temptation's Hydra (26), Broods' Broods EP (30), A Great Big World's Is There Anybody Out There? (33) and Sky Ferreira's Night Time, My Time (40).

Over to the singles chart and A Great Big World featured in a big way this week - their single with Christina Aguilera, Say Something moved up to number one, pushing Pharrell Williams' Happy down to two. Joel Fletcher's Swing featuring Savage maintained its third position in the chart for another week.

Beyoncé's sultry collaboration with husband Jay-Z, Drunk In Love debuted in the top 40 at 22, as did Eminem's Headlights featuring Nate Reuss, which came in at 36. Ellie Goulding's Goodness Gracious pushed into the 50 at 39, while Sara Bareilles' Brave moved into 40. Kylie Minogue's new track Into The Blue also debuted in the 50 at 46.
