Beady Eye, Deftones, The Hives Join Big Day Out 2014

Three big names replace Blur.

We're still smarting from the fact that Britpop legends Blur have decided to ditch their trip to Australia for the Big Day Out (for whatever reason it may be), but we're feeling a little better about it now that three pretty incredible replacements have been locked away.

Those three bands that we've been waiting for since AJ Maddah promised us them last week have today been announced as Beady Eye, Deftones and The Hives and that's pretty awesome, we reckon.

Oasis are dead and at the moment it looks like they're never coming back (though we never say never anymore). Thankfully Beady Eye has come from the ashes of the legendary Britpop band, featuring Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock from that band as well as Kasabian member Jay Mehler. Their anthemic brand of rock'n'roll has won hearts all over the world in the past few years and now Big Day Out brings them out for their first ever Australian dates.

DEFTONES

One of the most beloved heavy rock bands currently on the scene, these Californian dynamos sold out massive shows across the country earlier this year, leaving stragglers disappointed and those who had tickets absolutely over-the-moon with their incredible performances. There have been promises of Deftones returning ever since they left and, sure enough, here they are making another appearance on the Big Day Out after first joining the roadshow back in 2003.

THE HIVES

Australian audiences require no introduction to The Hives, the Swedish punk rock band that claim to be the greatest rock'n'roll band in the world – a claim that we quite frankly find it very difficult to refute every time we see them. They are one of the truly great bands on record and particularly in the live arena and we would probably go and see them play every single day of the week if it was possible to do so.

The dates for Big Day Out are in theGuide below; we hope you're still excited about it.
