The young New Zealander beats out Haim and Justin Timberlake for a number one debut
It's all about Lorde in this week's ARIA charts, as the New Zealand artist debuts at number one in the Albums Chart with Pure Heroine.
While the 'almost' 17 year-old Lorde, aka Elle Yelich-O'Connor, is not the youngest artist to hit the top of this chart (not even the youngest female - Miley Cyrus has that on both counts), she is the first female performer from New Zealand to do so. And, she acheived the number one entry with the third highest weekly sales so far this year.
In a strong week of releases, Lorde leads an entire top six made up of debut releases: at two is Days Are Gone by Haim; at three is the compilation Crucible: The Songs Of Hunters & Collectors - featuring Eddie Veder & Neil Finn, The Living End, Paul Kelly, Matt Corby and Missy Higgins among others; at four is The 20/20 Experience - 2 Of 2 by Justin Timberlake; at five is Fire Within by Birdy; and at six is We Are Young And Free by Hillsong Young & Free. [The six new entries in the top six positions also create a new record, just months after the chart saw debuts in the top four positions for the first time ever in May.]
There are more album debuts outside the top ten: Fortress by Alter Bridge at 13; The Fifth by Dizzee Rascal at 33; and Innocents by Moby at 35. Also, local alt-folk act Lachlan Bryan & The Wildes just misses the top 50, landing his Black Coffee set at 53.

Having already knocked Miley Cyrus from the top of the US Billboard 100 this week, Lorde also dominates this week's ARIA Streaming Tracks Chart. The Love Club EP goes back to number one amongst the streams while Tennis Court leaps back up to number four. They are joined by cuts from Pure Heroine: Team (17); 400 Lux (32); Ribs (36) and Buzzcut Season (40).
In the Singles Chart, Katy Perry remains at the top with Roar, though former Australian Idol contestant Jessica Mauboy is snapping at her heels with Pop A Bottle (Fill Me Up) entering at two. Current X Factor contestants also continue to chart as Dami Im lands at 15 with Bridge Over Troubled Water (it is one of six entries she currently has in the top 100) and Taylor Henderson is in at 27 with The Horses. The week's only other local single debut is hip hopper Illy's Youngbloods collab with The Amity Affliction's Ahren Stringer, in at 38.
