Collaborative record out "in a few months"
Flume and Chet Faker. Brothers from other mothers
Sydney production whiz-kid Flume and bearded electro-soul crooner Chet Faker have been working on an EP together, which will be released “in a few months”.
Speaking to The Music's Bryget Chrisfield, Flume – real name Harley Streten – described the collaboration as the artistic highlight of his year so far.
“I've got an EP coming out with Chet Faker, that's coming out in a few months,” he said. “I'm really, really psyched to get that out I think it's really strong.”
Streten said the duo were highly compatible.

“We went away for like a week and wrote some music and it turns out that we're like an awesome duo,” he said, “I mean, well, his strengths are all my weaknesses and vice versa so we kinda complement each other it's a bit like a yin yang thing we've got going on.
“That record doesn't sound particularly like Flume or specifically like, you know, a Chet Faker record it really is kinda like a hybrid of both sounds going to one and I feel like everything we did with that EP it was just totally everything was collaborative about the whole effort, and I think that shines through.”
Depending on how this EP is received, Flume hasn't ruled out the chance of a collaborative album.
“I've kinda just moved outta home and I'm building a studio right now,” he said, “and, yeah, I'm keen to get him to come up to Sydney and you know we can just hang for like, you know, a few weeks, a month, whatever. Write an album, whatever, we'll see what happens, you know?
“It's a very delicate thing we've got something pretty cool going on so I'm just excited to do more. Yeah, I can't wait to get back into the studio with him once our schedules kinda line up again and we can you know just write music.”
Sydney-based Flume originally met with Melbourne-based Faker after hearing the latter's breakout track, a cover of No Diggity.
“I contacted him [after] a friend of mine played me a Chet Faker track – that No Diggity cover he did – and I heard his voice and I was like, 'Damn, like, I wanna get this guy on a track,” so I Googled his name and found out he lived in Melbourne – I didn't know he lived in Australia or anything – so next time I was in Melbourne I messaged him on Soundcloud and we met up and yeah it kind of went from there.”
One thing Streten said he won't be doing is trying to 'out-beard' Faker.
“Ooh, that would be, I'm not even gonna go there. I think I'm gonna do the complete opposite and rep the no beard thing.”
Chet Faker previously provided vocals on Flume's Left Alone, which featured on his breakout self-titled album.
