More picks from our team on-ground

BENNY DOYLE

Damn Terran

Loud. So damn loud. And good. Fuck it was good. The hero of the trio changed with every song, and the riffs were so thick you felt them across your whole chest.

Born Lion

The set got better with each track signed off, and when John Bowker finished his vocal roars in the pit during their final song it was hard not to celebrate the chaos.

Mitzi

Tech issues aside, the guys brought with them an energy that lit up The Rev. They've been on the cusp for a while: could 2014 be the year of Mitzi? Don't be surprised.

Surecut Kids

Tackling their tech live for the first time, the guys not so much kept their heads above water as melted the speaker stacks with their badarse beats. Fun as fuck, deserved more on the dancefloor.

Kingswood

Big and sexy, the Melbourne lads looked totally at home headlining Oh Hello! Crowdsurfing, fist pumping, security scuffles and a cover of Dolly Parton's Jolene segued into First Aid Kit's Wolf made the set a suitable BIGSOUND close for many.

DAN CONDON

Clowns

Ric's played host to some bloody good quality heavy bands last night and Clowns capped things off brilliantly. A small but passionate crowd soaked up their brand of brilliant thrash punk with glee.

Bed Wettin' Bad Boys

I'm not sure how there were fewer people in the venue when they finished than when they started; Bed Wettin' Bad Boys' brand of messy, shambolic classic rock was just the ticket for a couple of beers and a boogie midway through the night.

Roku Music

Tym Guitars/Records might have been adamant that their showcase tonight was not a BIGSOUND event, but that didn't stop them having a brilliant line up. These Brisbane shoegaze acolytes made us feel all shivery.

Jeremy Neale

His band keeps getting better, his voice keeps getting better and the new songs sound very promising indeed.

The Love Junkies

It's great to see a really big crowd getting behind a genuinely good young rock band. Gee, that's a boring review, but it's the Friday of BIGSOUND.

JAZMINE O'SULLIVAN

Clowns

Dare-devil stage diving is always entertaining. A few die-hard fans at the front of stage add to the party-thrash dynamic as well. Fucking fantastic!

The Walking Who

Blissed out psychedelic jams you can really lose yourself to. They've brought a few friends on stage to help them create a full-bodied wall of sound; it's all quite lovely.

Major Leagues

They absolutely nail their cover of the Daria theme tune, possibly because frontgirl is a bit Daria-esque herself, both in attitude and hairstyle.

The Sinking Teeth

This band has possibly the most energetic drummer at BIGSOUND. The guys hand out confetti cans to the audience at the end which makes for a real spectacle. A drunk fan decides to help out with vocal duties on stage near the end too, and he doesn't do too bad a job!

The Love Junkies

You never know just how the beat is going to go with these guys, they always keep you on your toes. The frontman keeps saying how everything is going wrong, but it sounds fantastic! Would love to see their set when they think things are going well.
