It's been eight long years, but here comes 'Role Model'

More Bodyjar More Bodyjar

It's been a bloody long time since Melbourne punk-rockers Bodyjar released a full-length, but recent reunion performances and, now, an announced comeback offering sees the band break the massive eight-year LP drought to give fans what they really want.

The fully recorded album, titled Role Model, is more than ready to hit shelves after the four-piece had been working on it in secret, a collection of tunes that clearly display their love of music in what may be their most cohesive offering yet.

“It's just logical for us because we now all have the time and the patience to make it happen,” the band's Cam Baines told theMusic.

“I guess it's been eight years in-between albums and a long hiatus from playing tours. We've all had kids, work and other commitments. I think now we all just wanted to do it for the right reasons which is just because we enjoy it! Not much point in doing it if you don't.

“After such a long break we're just so stoked to be playing together again and writing songs and recording!”

Forming in 1994, Bodyjar came out of the massive, worldwide punk boom along with bands like The Offspring, Blink 182 and fellow Aussies Frenzal Rhomb, resulting in seven studio records and bragging Gold certification before calling it quits in 2009.

However, they played a range of sell-out performances on their No Touch Red reunion tour last year, as well as some national Descendents shows earlier in 2013 that gave the band a renewed energy and a range of sweet new tunes.

“I think it takes the best parts of every album. We have 3 or 4 really fast melodic punk songs and some medium paced ones,” said Baines.

“Then there's a couple anthem type tracks that could be from the How It Works era.

“I think taking time off the band has made us really understand what we are and what we are good at doing - so we just tried to do that! Make a classic Aussie punk album in our own eyes and hopefully people hear what we hear in it!”

Role Model is released Friday 18 October through UNFD.
