Melbourne-via-Auckland rock outfit King Cannons have split up, claiming that the band members have grown apart following the release of their debut album.

The Brightest Light was released last year as a high priority for EMI, but the band struggled to find their rhythm following the release.

The band's singer and songwriter Luke Yeoward said, “We gave 100 percent in everything we did, and always said we would allow ourselves the space to grow as creative individuals. In this case, the growth was positive for the individuals, but tough for the collective. The right thing to do was to grow apart.

“Even though it is sad to say goodbye, we hope it will lead to new beginnings for us all. I will continue my musical journey as a singer songwriter, aiming to record new material, and hit the stage over the southern hemisphere's summer.”

Managed by Footstomp Music's Graham Ashton, he added, “King Cannons and Footstomp Music had a very intense ride both professionally and personally and we loved almost every minute of it. In a landscape where music is more about style than substance, Cannons had it all and then some.

“The reason they were great is the same reason that they have called it a day. They challenged themselves and the people around to the limit and we wouldn't have wanted it any other way.”
