More Guttermouth More Guttermouth

Guttermouth frontman Mark Adkins has told theMusic.com.au this afternoon that mystery drugs are to blame for his band's reportedly poor show at the Ferntree Gully Hotel on Sunday night.

After the show, punters alerted theMusic.com.au to the fact that the band's frontman Mark Adkins was in a poor state and that a number of audience members left shortly after the 'farcical' set commenced, some asking for their money back.

Some of the irate punters took to the band's Facebook page to let their ill-feelings known.

"It was like you guys didn't even care!" one punter remarked

"Your performance was a fucking joke.” said another.

"Over half of the crowd walked out after twenty minutes of the worst pus-filled show I've ever seen. Fuck you guys." another commented.

A remorseful Adkins spoke to theMusic.com.au this afternoon, claiming that he was feeling unwell and accepted medication from a member of the audience before the show commenced. He says he then proceeded to mix the medication with alcohol and blacked out.

“When I flew in, my first two shows were flawless, just perfect. I was a little bit under the weather and some punter had some cold medicine – I don't know what kind of medicine it was – I had some drinks and I don't remember squat.

“It's a shitty cop-out, but that 100 percent the truth right there. I woke up just not even knowing what has gone on here.

“The [Guttermouth] guys considered taking me to a physician afterwards; they were generally worried about my welfare.”

He says that he's not sure what the pills were that he was allegedly offered.

“I'm not a pharmacist!” he laughs. “And I had no reason to discount someone's goodwill. But, yeah, full blackout mode. It's almost like a roofie or something, it's terrifying! You lose a little trust in your fellow man. It's humiliating and embarrassing that it happened, but it won't happen again, believe me. Lesson learned.”

The band have toured Australia countless times over the past quarter of a century and Adkins has been there for each visit. He says that the good track record he has with Australian shows over the years ought to prove that this was a one-off.

“This is obviously not the norm for me, how many times have I come to this country and done stand up shows every single time? Anyone who thinks this is commonplace is ridiculous.”

Finally, Adkins apologises to the audience at the show who were disappointed by what transpired on stage.

“I do apologise to the people for that, but I was kind of a victim of circumstance and I've gotta move on. If there was a way I could make it up to people, believe me, I'd do it in a second. I apologise to the people who didn't get the normal Guttermouth delivery; that bothers me more than anything.”
