A film based on the iconic New York rock venue CBGB is being made and today we got our first taste of it with a two-minute trailer.

It looks… OK, we guess.

Directed by little-known Randall Miller (who self-distributed his last film, 2008's Bottle Shock), the film will follow venue owner Hilly Kristal in his quest to set up the venue and its evolution from a country and bluegrass joint to a hive for rock and punk bands after the country folk decided they didn't want a bar of it.

The trailer features Alan Rickman (with a perm and who's worked with Miller previously), Johnny Galecki and Rupert Grint amongst others and the film boasts original tracks from Talking Heads, Television, Blondie, Iggy Pop, The Velvet Underground and The Police.

We're going to hold final judgement until we see the full thing… and probably watch Almost Famous, Walk The Line and 24 Hour Party People in the meantime. The film's due out October in the US.
