They'll also take to the road, including their appearance at Mullum Fest
Both firmly set on the own career paths, USA's Pieta Brown and Australia's Lucie Thorn routes have crossed long enough for the two to release a debut collaborative record under the moniker Love Over Gold.
The record, named Fall To Rise, will drop early September and is linked to the indie poignancy of Bon Iver and Iron & Wine, sprouting from a musical chemistry that both artists say allowed a seamless writing and recording process.
Brown and Thorn met in 2010 when the former was venturing on her first Australian tour, becoming instant friends and fans of each other's work – two and a half years later, presenting their newly produced album, recorded in Brown's hometown of Iowa.
“Making Fall To Rise pushed me artistically but above all it was really fun!" says Pieta Brown.
“I've sung with a lot of different people, but this is the first time I've been a part of trying to merge two voices into a singular sound. I'm especially proud of this kind of blatant tenderness in the one big sound we created... and that happened totally organically.”
“Right from the start there's been such joyfulness to this project; and such an ease to our connection,” adds Lucy Thorne.
“From the very first song we worked on together it's felt like finding a songwriting soulmate”.
The two have already their own solo accolades, Lucie Thorn awarded Album of The Year by The Sydney Morning Herald, her records shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize and her work included on a Universal Records compilation alongside Radiohead and Leonard Cohen. Likewise, Pieta Brown's success is mirrored in the States, touring with Mark Knofler and J.J. Cale, her Mercury record named #1 Folk Album of 2012 by Roots Music Radio Report, with her forthcoming solo release including collaborations with Justin Vernon and Amos Lee.
Love Over Gold will also be taking to the road to promote their new record, touring four headline shows down the south coast of the country – including Mullumbimby's Mullum Music Festival, the full lineup announced early this morning.
Fall To Rise will be released Monday 9 September via Little Secret Records through Vitamin Distribution.
