And Aussie fans can expect it next winter

Fans of True Blood will be licking their blood-drenched lips today, with Variety breaking the news that the popular HBO program will be hitting television screens for a seventh season.

Only returning for the show's sixth season in late-June and already locking in solid ratings for HBO, the Alan Ball created program will return for a seventh year under the leadership of executive producer Brian Buckner.

HBO's programming president Michael Lombardo attributed True Blood's continued success to Buckner, who is joined on a team of exec producers by Ball, Gregg Fienberg and Alexander Woo, reports Variety.

True Blood remains a signature show for HBO, and a true phenomenon with our viewers,” Lombardo said.

“Thanks to Brian Buckner and his talented team, the show continues to be a thrill ride like nothing else on TV.”

Fans can expect season seven in next Australian winter, but for now, there's still season six to stick your teeth into.

And check out the cast talking about their favourite moments of the show so far!

Speaking of season six, True Blood's latest episode failed to make the Australian top twenty cable shows in last night's television ratings, meaning the show failed to break the 45,000 viewers mark Down Under.

The top shows included the last night's NRL game between the Cowboys and Manly, AFL360 and Monday Night With Matty Johns.
