Graham Ashton joins promoters’ team as a consultant

The inaugural Sydney Folk Festival has been pushed until 2014 after it was originally announced for September this year.

In April theMusic.com.au broke the news of the new festival, which is being promoted by Big Bear Entertainment – who are responsible for Brisbane's punk-focused Live It Up, but the recent addition of Footstomp Music's Graham Ashton as a program consultant to Big Bear has prompted a timeline revaluation.

Big Bear's Zanda Strofield told theMusic.com.au today, “Part of the planning process that has seen Asho come on board also meant that we have changed the timing of some of our upcoming schedule to accommodate some new projects.

“The Sydney Folk Festival is now part of our 2014 slate and we're confident that the new team will create an incredibly memorable event.”

As it stood the festival was likely to clash with other September events in 2013 and theMusic has been assured that the event is on the cards for 2014.

In the past 12 months Ashton has worked with Thelma Plum, Busby Marou and The Medics and has wrapped up his final year of programming the BIGSOUND industry showcase and conference.

“We have committed at various levels to events for 2014 and going forward, having Asho on board is an exiting next step for Big Bear,” Strofield said. “The knowledge and experience he brings is only going to enhance the ticket buyers' experience so I am looking forward to working with him here in on our events in Australia and in the US and Canada to follow up on huge interest in what we are planning for next year.”

Ashton added, “I have watched Zanda operate through his experience as promoter for Red Deer and Live It Up. He is a fearless straight shooter with an unconventional approach to the festival game. Teaming up with someone with attributes appeals to be me greatly.”
