THE OFFSPRING

They played to enormous crowds at Soundwave this year and sold out their intimate sideshows in no time flat, so why not get the west coast punk veterans back to headline Warped in its returning year? The Offspring will add a very strong dose of the “old school” that was promised in our recent interview with the festival organisers and they'll provide plenty of singalong fodder for us.

PARKWAY DRIVE

What better local flavour to add to the top of an Australian Warped bill than our most dominant hardcore act of all time. Byron Bay's Parkway Drive are one of the best hardcore bands on the planet right now and they deliver such brilliantly punishing live performances that you won't want to be anywhere but the pit when they hit the stage for these dates.

THE USED

The Used are one of the bands we were pretty confident would be making their return to Australia for the festival. Bert McCracken and co will have the kids screaming when they bring tracks from last year's Vulnerable as well as hits from throughout their 12 year career to Warped this year.

SIMPLE PLAN

Canadian rockers Simple Plan mightn't have dropped a new record in a couple of years, but they've never been the kind of group to rush things. They've put on plenty of great shows in Australian and our country remains a very strong territory for the band – plenty will be excited about their inclusion here.

NEW FOUND GLORY

The pop punk keeps on rolling with the addition of these Florida dudes, who've been slamming out catchy tunes for over 15 years. They have been credited with shaping the way that modern pop punk has gone over the past decade or so, but they're hardly living in the past; their most recent LP Radiosurgery showing New Found Glory still have plenty to offer.

HATEBREED

People have been asking for Hatebreed's return for ages, hell they'll probably start asking again minutes after they've left the country after Warped, but that's just because they're one of the great metalcore bands of our time. Constantly crossing the boundaries between thrash metal and hardcore, with their own unique touch thrown in for good measure, the band have been a dominant mainstay in heavy music for two decades and will continue to be so.

TONIGHT ALIVE

These Aussies are continuing their ascent in modern pop punk circles around the world and, while they might sound kind of American, Tonight Alive are proud Sydneysiders and will more than likely boost their following with some big performances at Warped this year.

H2O

Warped wouldn't be right without at least one band who found their feet in the skate punk explosion of the mid-1990s and H2O fit the bill just nicely. A mainstay of the punk rock scene around that time, the band are still going as strong as ever; their 2011 covers LP Don't Forget Your Roots is a hell of a lot of fun and they're due for a new LP sometime before the end of the year.

(H2O are no longer playing Warped)

THE SUMMER SET

Warped has plenty of bands whose sound leans towards the pop side of things, but probably few do so with more unabashed fervour than The Summer Set. These dudes have a serious knack for putting together earworms that speak of all the good things; girls, girls and girls. We reckon there'll be plenty of girls very happy these boys are on their way down this way later in the year.

KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES

Their fourth studio album Peace is set for release just two months before their trip to Australia, so it is pretty good timing for Kids In Glass Houses to be hitting Australian as a part of a tour as massive as this. The band have a diverse fan base thanks to shows with all manner of different kinds of rock bands over the years, so there should be quite a few different types of punters gearing up to see them again.

WE CAME AS ROMANS

The melodic metalcore of We Came As Romans is evidence of a band who can seamlessly incorporate elements from a diverse sonic palette, a skill that's mighty hard for any band to master. Electronic and symphonic influences rub up against crushing metal and hardcore elements to make for one impressive heavy act.

MAN OVERBOARD

The motional pop punk of Man Overboard fits onto this bill pretty much perfectly. They might be named after a Blink-182 song, and there's certainly plenty of similarities there, but they are a band that have matured a fair bit quicker than their heroes, injecting some sophisticated songwriting smarts into their music straight off the bat.

CROWN THE EMPIRE

Metalcore sextet Crown The Empire play a really dramatic kind of heavy, technical hardcore that explodes into soaring, poppy choruses. The past couple of years have seen the band develop their sound to a point where they are now considered among the top tier of the up and coming metalcore set, which is really saying something given the ubiquity of this style of music.

THE DANGEROUS SUMMER

Alternative rockers The Dangerous Summer have their third LP due for release in around a month's time and they ought to benefit greatly from a showing on the Australian Warped Tour. It'll be a mutually beneficial arrangement as far as many are concerned, though, as the ear candy of the band's modern pop-rock will pique interest of plenty in attendance.

FOR ALL THOSE SLEEPING

The return of these metalcore dudes will have plenty of young punks pretty stoked. For All Those Sleeping are going from strength to strength, with two LPs and a shitload of world touring experience under their belt, they're firing on all cylinders.

VEARA

While their sound is undoubtedly from the modern day, you get the feeling that Veara are the kind of band who really look back at their older influences when penning material and you kinda think that a lot of those influences are great Warped bands of yesteryear. Whether you consider them a toned down hardcore banned or a revved up pop punk band, their songs are built for big old fashioned sing-alongs and they'll be perfect for a festival like this.

ANARBOR

These Arizonan rockers have just released a new LP in Burnout, a record that saw them develop their hooky brand of friendly punk rock, and they're ready to show Australia how well they've honed it. One of the more laid back bands on the bill, we've no doubt Anarbor will still match it with the best of them on the live stage.

MALLORY KNOX

This UK rock group are currently riding high on the release of their debut LP Signals, which shows off their slick radio rock with a real sense of class. Australian audiences might not be familiar with Mallory Knox yet, but they sound like the kind of band that people down here are going to go nuts over; their slick but gutsy rock songs sounding a little like some of our own finest rockers.

RDGLDGRN

You mightn't know the name, but there are plenty of people who have caught on to this trio's self-described “indie go-go” music. Pharrell Williams and Dave Grohl have both worked with the young band recently and their first EP has seen them generate plenty of interest. They might not be everyone's cup of tea, but RDGLDGRN will inject a nice bit of fun (and hip hop) into proceedings.
