South West Sydney-bred but now Melbourne-based rapper L-FRESH The LION has inked a deal with a new company called Vienna People Recordings, he has informed theMusic.com.au today.

The new label has been set up by Michael Crawley, a veteran of the Australian industry who formerly founded True Tone Records. That label featured great records from artists like The Go-Betweens, Ed Kuepper, The Celibate Rifles and GANGgajang in its short run through from mid-80s to the early-90s but Crawley has opted for a new tact with his latest venture.

Vienna People will sign burgeoning acts to a one album deal, working on an artist's development and giving them a chance to get their first release out without the pressure of a major label. After that first record, the artists are free to leave and do what they wish from there on.

L-FRESH The LION is currently hard at work on his debut LP One, after releasing the album's title track as its first single earlier in the year. Check it out below:

The second single is on its way shortly, the 24-year-old rapper promises, as he looks to capitalise on the early buzz that the One single has generated.

A fervently community minded artist, The LION has been featured in mainstream media for his work with the community, has given a TEDx talk about self-creation through hip hop and appeared on panels for the likes of Amnesty International.
