A certified international star following her MTV Movie Awards hosting gig, Australian comedy actor Rebel Wilson will this week sit down at the desk on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon (to be seen here on Comedy Channel at 11.15pm Tuesday). Fallon's show is executive produced by Lorne Michaels, one of the most influential figures in US TV comedy (Saturday Night Live [SNL], Portlandia, 30 Rock) and Wilson's fans have long been lobbying for the comedian to be invited to host Michaels' SNL.
Adelaide band Atlas Genius also continue their assault on the US market with a spot on Late Show With David Letterman (to screen on Ten, in a midnightesque hour next Friday). About to embark on a headline tour of the States, the guys are now celebrating a 49-week run in the American Alternative Songs chart with their hit Trojans. In December Atlas Genius appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! - one of Letterman's competitors - but this week's appearance has the potential to get the band in front of 3.2 million viewers (Kimmel's show is climbing in popularity but is still below the 3 million viewer mark). This will be the Aussie rockers third US network appearance, having also been invited onto NBC's Last Call With Carson Daly last October.
Also performing on Letterman this week (Wednesday night on Australian TV) is Phoenix - the French band are currently promoting their Bankrupt! album. While former guitarist with The Smiths, Johnny Marr will play on Thursday night's Fallon show.
The Colbert Report (7.30pm weeknights on Comedy Channel) will also be featuring high profile musical artists this week. Iggy Pop & The Stooges brave satirical pundit Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night - they'll perform Job off the new Ready To Die album - while it's Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' turn on Thursday evening.
