Twitter's music app is coming

Australian-founded music company We Are Hunted have today confirmed the rumours that they have been acquired by social networking giant Twitter to develop their new music app.

As part of the deal the wearehunter.com website, essentially a chart aggregated from music being discussed on the internet, has been shut down and the team will be integrated into Twitter's staff. In today's announcement they decline to comment on what they're working on for Twitter, but it is believed they are developing Twitter's upcoming music app.

Earlier today American Idol host and radio personality Ryan Seacrest tweeted that he was “playing with twitter's new music app”. The official We Are Hunted account replied to that with, “so glad you're enjoying it” while tagging in @twittermusic.

We Are Hunted was founded in Brisbane in 2007 with Stephen Phillips, Richard Slatter, Michael Doherty and Nick Crocker, the latter is no longer with the company. One of the original investors was well-known Australian philanthropist Graeme Wood.

A representative for Twitter today could not confirm whether there would be an Australian office for We Are Hunted.
