Mayor Darcy Byrne issues message to potential owners

Sydney's Annandale Hotel has officially been listed for its receiver's sale by liquidators Ferrier Hodgson.

The much-loved and renowned live music hub was handed over to the receivers in February this year and has since proved the catalyst for Leichhardt Mayor Darcy Byrne to push for a Sydney live music precinct in the region.

Listed as a “iconic entertainment pub”, the Annandale Hotel ad was placed by Knight Frank in print media over the weekend and is now online as well.

Knight Frank's Director for Hotels Mike Wheatley told theMusic.com.au that the response to the listing had been “very good” but said it was too early in the process to comment on the substance of prospective buyers.

“As a music venue it was a pretty unusual property to sell,” he said, “but fortunately it has a good property values and it's in a bloody good location so I think we'll get enquiries from a range of people.”

A spokesperson from Ferrier Hodgson was unable to comment to theMusic on the venue's value in time for today's Your Daily SPA newsletter deadline.

Mayor Byrne told theMusic today, “It should be clear to any prospective buyer that in Leichhardt Council they have a partner committed to bringing the Annandale Hotel back to life as Sydney's premier music venue.

“Momentum for turning Parramatta Road into Sydney's live music district is becoming unstoppable and there is a greater incentive for investment in the Annandale Hotel as a live music venue than there has been in recent years.”

Byrne had invited Ferrier Hodgson to apply for later trading hours to make entertainment more viable but today admitted that he had not been made aware if a development application had been submitted. He said he is encouraged by previous meetings held with the liquidators.

The listing confirms the hotel is fully licensed and freehold vacant possession, given that previous owners Matt and Dan Rule handed the venue over. It notes possible gaming and signage opportunities with a land area of approximately 639 square metres.

Knight Frank are accepting expressions of interest until Wednesday 8 May at 4pm.
