Bon Jovi & Matchbox 20: What's The Difference?

One of these songs is just like the other one...

Bon Jovi. Lookin' good boys.

Bon Jovi. Lookin' good boys.

More Matchbox Twenty More Matchbox Twenty

We were just hanging out, minding our own business, listening to the hot new record from Bon Jovi - which debuted in the number one spot on the ARIA charts last week - when we couldn't help but think something sounded very familiar. Here's their tune Beautiful World.

Inspiring song, sure. One of those ones that just makes you happy to be alive. Makes you want to run through Venice Beach in your tracky daks and just praise your weird, trendy deity for giving you such a beautiful gift, channeled through the guitar licks of the delectable Richie Sambora.

But then we dug out an old favourite from the archives, that being Matchbox Twenty's 2007 classic album Exile On Mainstream and couldn't help but notice they sounded pretty similar.

Okay, the obvious questions here are "Why the fuck were you listening to the new Bon Jovi?" and "How the fuck do you remember what that shitty Matchbox 20 song sounds like?" and the answer to both is that we are well-rounded, open-minded music appreciators who don't have any friends or reasons to remember anything beyond pop hooks.

Another question is "How the fuck do both of these songs sound so similar and still sell so many records, probably to the same fucking people?" and the answer to that is something that we're still searching for.

What do you reckon? Are we high or do these two songs sound just a little bit too close to each other?

Bon Jovi are gonna be here later in the year so hopefully we can have a chat to them about it then.
