Authorities thank majority of punters

Police in Sydney and Melbourne arrested a total of 211 people at the Future Music Festivals over the weekend, with authorities praising the behaviour of the majority.

Visiting Sydney's Randwick Racecourse on Saturday, police arrested 140 patrons for a variety of drug offences, an assault and a breach of bail. 164 people were ejected from the event while four suffered “serious” medical conditions, which police have attributed to drug overdoses.

On Sunday the event moved to Melbourne, where a further 71 people were arrested. 63 received drug diversions, three received cannabis cautions and two people were charged with trafficking ecstasy.

Yesterday also saw the inaugural under 18s Goodlife event visit Sydney's Randwick Racecourse, and a further six were arrested largely for drug and assault offences. 40 people were kicked out of that event.

Sydney's Superintendent Gavin Dengate, Eastern Beaches Local Area Commander, said “Revellers at both events held over the weekend should be congratulated on their behaviour and as a result were able to have a fantastic experience at the festival.

“We saw some people treated for intoxication yesterday, but we were pleased with the majority who had listened to our warnings about bringing alcohol and drugs into the event.

“Officers patrolling spoke to a number of revellers who were in good spirits and were as a whole very well behaved.”

DJ Timmy Trumpet had teamed up with police to advise punters against brining illicit substances into the event last week.

The Future Music Festival finishes its 2013 excursion in Adelaide today.
