Future Music Festival headliner taken to hospital in Queensland.

More Avicii More Avicii

Swedish EDM superstar Avicii was forced to cancel yesterday's headline appearance at Brisbane's Future Music Festival. And, on advice from doctors, he was forced to cancel today's FMF event in Perth.

A statement was issued last night ahead of Avicii's much-anticipated slot at the first Australian leg of the touring dance music festival.

Promoters revealed, "Avicii went directly to the hospital upon landing in Brisbane for stomach related issues. He has been hospitalised since then. Over the past couple of days we have been monitoring his condition and we have all been optimistic about him being healthy enough to perform."

The festival organisers had expected him to be given a clear bill of health but reported, "Unfortunately the doctors are not willing to discharge him at this time, so he will be unable to appear this evening or at tomorrow's festival."

They are confident though that the headliner will return to the tour when it hits Sydney on Saturday: "Avicii will continue to rest throughout this week and looks forward to playing the remaining shows on this tour."

Last night's set times were re-arranged around Avicii's absence with Dutch DJ Hardwell playing an extended set. Avicii's cancellation was only one of a few hiccups for yesterday's event - the festival location was hit by torrential rains that caused logistical problems such as trucks being bogged in mud and some artists being caught out by roadblocks due to flooding.

Remaining festival dates, with Avicii:

Saturday 9 March - Sydney
Sunday 10 March - Melbourne
Monday 11 March - Adelaide
