Vic Premier Claims New Music Grants Will Fund "Next Gotye"

Clairy Browne, Jordie Lane and Toot Toot Toots amongst latest round of Vic grant recipients.

Cashing in on the global exposure recently garnered by Melbourne-based artist Gotye, following his Grammy hat-trick, the Victorian Government branded its latest round of music grants as "enabling" the "next Gotye".

Last night Victorian Premier, and Minister For The Arts, Ted Bailleau unveiled the latest round of Contemporary And Live Music Development grants, "set to provide opportunities for 37 local musicians, bands and music industry organisations."

Artists on the "Career Building" grants list include internationally recognised Clairy Browne & The Bangin' Rackettes ($15,000), Toot Toot Toots ($13,500) and Jordie Lane ($12,500). Other acts included Geelong metal rockers Baptism Of Uzi ($6,288) alt.folk team I, A Man ($7,512) and upcoming indie kids Dancing Heals ($15,000) as well as burgeoning singer/songwriters Laura Imbruglia ($11,000) and Lehmann B Smith ($1,500).

Touring grants were awarded to The April Maze, Nat Bartsch Trio and 4Arm amongst others.
