There Will Be A New Descendents Album

Frontman Milo Aukerman confirms there is plenty of new material.

More Descendents More Descendents

It has been 11 years since punk rock icons Descendents recorded their most recent studio album Cool To Be You and almost nine years since its release, but frontman Milo Aukerman has told theMusic.com.au that the band are most definitely intending on releasing another one, they just don't know when.

In the interview, Aukerman tells Dan Condon that there is plenty of new material kicking around the Descendents camp. But given their relative inactivity as a band due to other career commitments, they are yet to find time to record

“Yeah we've all written new songs; those guys they never stop writing, they always have new songs,” Aukerman confirms. “Bill [Stevenson – drummer] got sick a few years back and at that point I hadn't really written songs in several years, we were all so worried about him and once he got better I wrote a song about it – that was the first song I'd written in a while but it lead to others.

“So the songwriting happens, that's one piece of the puzzle, but the other piece is recording them and that's one thing we're trying to take one step at a time. We can't just hole up in a studio for three months and record, we've kinda gotta do it piecemeal. So that's what we're trying to do now, trade digital files back and forth and get to the point where we've worked up some songs amongst us. Maybe that's gonna take a year, maybe it'll take two years, we don't really have a set time frame.”

Given they've released just two records in the past 25 years, one doesn't hold out hope that it will happen any time soon, but it's pleasing to hear it's on the cards.
