Melbourne's version of Bollywood receive global honour

More The Bombay Royale More The Bombay Royale

Melbourne Bollywood-inspired band The Bombay Royale have been hit with some very good news today, with their latest album named as iTunes Breakthrough World Music Album for 2012.

According to the website of their record label Hope Street Recordings, the group's album You Me Bullets Love has received the accolade, capping off a big year for the eleven-piece outfit.

Back in June, vocalist Parvyn Kaur Singh spoke to us about fitting in perfectly with the band when she first joined them, even though she was more into indie rock than Bollywood.

"I think [The Bombay Royale] is perfect for me – it's exactly what I've always wanted to do. I mean, I remember when I first went to go see the guys, they were rehearsing down at Hope Street warehouse and yeah, I walked into this tiny little room and there were ten of them in there all jamming away to this old Bollywood stuff that my parents used to listen to and it was like, 'What is going on?' [laughs] 'Where am I?' It was crazy.”
