Victoria Police have issued a press release revealing they have made 92 drug-related arrests at the Stereosonic festival at the Melbourne Showgrounds.

Police said of the 92 festival-goers arrested: "80 were referred to a drug diversion program, five received cannabis cautions while seven people were interviewed and charged in relation to possessing and trafficking."

They added, "One person was also arrested for being drunk." The crowd was estimated at 45,000.

According to police, substances found on the arrested persons included ecstasy, amphetamines, cocaine, cannabis, GHB and MDMA.

The arrests were a  result of what police described as a "Passive Alert Detection dog operation".

Victorian Police have been targetting summer dance events with sniffer dogs for the past five years and warn, "We will continue to police these types of events in an attempt to limit the impact these drugs have on society.”

Sydney's Stereosonic was also the scene of "dozens arrests" last weekend and earlier this week, Melbourne's The Age published an article about a recent bout of GBH overdoses, warned that people attending the festival would be "met at the gate by drug sniffer dogs."
