They're looking to raise $40,000
Perth alt.rock stalwarts Eskimo Joe have announced today that they will be looking to raise $40,000 through crowd funding to record their next – and sixth – album.
The multi-ARIA Award winning outfit will campaign direct to fans via the Pozible platform, with the $40,000 target set to be the biggest fan-based contribution towards music by an Australian artist on the platform. They have set 80 days to reach the goal, so the campaign will close Friday 9 February.
The seeds for the upcoming album were laid earlier this year when the trio were jamming in their recently-completed Perth studio, The Wasteland.
Today the band told theMusic.com.au that, “We feel like this sixth record is a new start for us. It seems like there's a real sense of freedom in the studio, and having our own workspace has allowed us to just enjoy playing music together, rather than rushing to record.”

The crowd-funding system works by offering incentives to fans in exchange for the donations towards the recording and production of this record. The incentives for donations include advance copies of tracks, unreleased material or a BBQ with the band depending on the financial contribution offered.
For those looking to really shell out, there are opportunities to see the band perform the album live at The Wasteland and a limited number of custom made guitars crafted by guitarist Stuart MacLeod.
On recording the album independently the band said, “We've been so fortunate to work alongside such dedicated, experienced and talented people along the way, and we thank them for everything they have taught us, hopefully we can use all that knowledge this time around. Having our supporters involved in this process through crowd-funding is massively exciting, and we feel a real responsibility to them to deliver a fucking great record.”
If all goes to plan the band are aiming to release the to-be-named record in the middle of next year.
