As their first album since 2009 is released around the world, it is being reported that Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has entered a rehabilitation facility to deal with substance abuse issues.

After a dummy spit at the Las Vegas iHeartRadio Music Festival – which, at the time, was blamed on the band's set being cut short – the band issued a statement apologizing for their actions and clarifying the circumstances of the events.

“Billie Joe is seeking treatment for substance abuse,” the statement reads. “We would like everyone to know that our set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those we offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas.  We regretfully must postpone some of our upcoming promotional appearances.”

The band's ¡Uno! Record was released on Friday; the first of three records in a trilogy that sees the band release follow ups in November and January 2013. In an interview with Hits Daily Double, the band's longtime producer Rob Cavallo explained that partying and the excesses that go along with it were strong themes throughout the three record series.

¡Uno! sort of represents the feelings and fun of getting ready to go to a party,” he explains. “¡Dos! is about being at the party, in the throes of alcohol, sex, drugs and rock & roll. And ¡Tré! is kind of the morning after—when you wake up and have that reflection about your life.”

theMusic.com.au were scheduled to speak with Green Day drummer Tré Cool on Friday, but were notified that the commitment would not be fulfilled at the time of the scheduled interview.
