The October Australian tour of drone metal pioneers Sunn O))) and Pelican has been cancelled, after promoter Heathen Skulls admitted that the cost of Sunn's involved live show was too much to be viable.

With the tour cancelled completely, and full refunds now available, Heathen Skull said in a release that, “Hopefully Sunn can reschedule their Australian tour with a promoter that's best suited to their needs.”

The release read, “Due to the high costs and complicated nature of presenting Sunn, in the way they like to be best represented, it was made clear yesterday evening that it was too difficult to continue presenting an Australian tour at this point in time.”

Promoters added that slow initial ticket sales indicated that the tour was in trouble, and they decided not to announce a planned Brisbane show as a result.

“With an over saturation of the market place and lower than expected tickets sales,” they said, “the future of the Sunn tour was in jeopardy… the band hadn't announced the tour officially on their end. Heathen Skulls tried everything with its power to save the tour, but in the end, financially it wasn't going to work, cancelling the whole tour was the only logical solution.”

Heathen Skulls head Robert MacManus expressed his disappointment, saying, “I wish things could have been different.”
