The festival looks overseas and interstate

Italian prog rock pioneers Goblin have been announced as the lead act for this year's Melbourne Music Week, which will see Melbourne play host to a range of artists - musical and otherwise - from around the country and the world.

The MMW expects to see over 200 acts, with the first line-up announced today:

Goblin (ITA)
Housse De Racket (FRA)
Teengirl Fantasy (USA)
Collabones
Crayon Fields
Twerps
Kirin J Callinan
Eskimo (USA)
Pillowtalk (USA)

Goblin, who broke to fame in the '70s, will perform at MMW in a performance exclusive to the festival. Renowned for their Dario Argento film soundtracks, they'll play - alongside other musicians - at Melbourne Town Hall Wednesday 21 November.

French synth rock outfit Housse de Racket will headline the new Where?House pop-up venue alongside Eskimo and PillowTalk - three acts that have never played in Australia before.

MMW has already partnered with labels Siberia Records, Cutters Records, Two Bright Lakes and Chapter Music, who will curate stage events during the week. Melbourne's own Crayon Fields and Twerps will play Chapter's night, which Teengirl Fantasy and Collarbones will play the Two Bright Lakes/Cutters event and Kirin J Callinan Siberia's date.

The full program details of the week, running from Friday 16 – Friday 24 November, will be revealed Wednesday 3 October, with the next announcement  and tickets Wednesday 19 September.
