It is the first album to span the seminal Brisbane band's entire career.

The Go-Betweens have announced a new best of, which will be the first compilation album to span the seminal Brisbane band's entire career.

Quiet Heart: The Best Of The Go-Betweens will be released Friday 31 August through EMI and the track listing been curated by former members Robert Forster, Lindy Morrison, Amanda Brown and Robert Vickers.

Formed by Forster and Grant McLennan in Brisbane in the late '70s, the band went onto to be one of the nation's best musical exports of the '80s. Acclaimed all over the world, they eventually moved to London during a prolific six albums in seven years. Breaking up and moving back to Australia at the end of the decade, the members continued playing in various guises until the death of McLennan in 2006.
