The cult-favourite metalheads will put out their fourth studio full-length next month

More Airbourne More Airbourne

Warrnambool hard-rock vets Airbourne are firing on all cylinders — no pun intended — following their recent announcement atop the bill for next year's Summernats event, padding out their calendar with heaps of commitments to keep them busy, including the release of their forthcoming fourth LP, Breakin' Outta Hell.

The 11-track album will land on Friday 23 September via Spinefarm Records, and comes carrying the expert touch of producer Bob Marlette and engineer/mixer Mike Fraser. The band have also unveiled the first taste of the record in the form of its blistering title track, the lyric video for which was released at the end of last month and, from the sounds of it, has been well received by the Airbourne army.

"We get a lot of feedback from our fans saying how much they love the faster tracks," frontman Joel O’ Keeffe said in a statement. "But when they play them in the car… well, it can be tough on their pocket with all the speeding fines!

"Breakin’ Outta Hell is definitely one of those numbers … even the guys who filmed the lyric video were stopped by the police and given a fine. For us, these visuals really sum up the feeling behind the song, and the album, too — the whole message is right there. Put on the single, or the album, and it’s 'Fuck the boss and fuck all the tax I owe. I’m going out, I’m getting pissed and I’m going to listen to some hard rock ‘n’ roll. No ballads, no bullshit. I’m breaking out of hell!'"

The band will be filling out most of the remainder of 2016 abroad, tied up in Europe on tour through October and November, but local fans won't have to wait too long before Airbourne are back on home turf and getting out and about; the band will play three shows in early 2017, at Sydney's Metro Theatre (Friday 13 January), Brisbane's Triffid (14 January) and Melbourne's Trak (Friday 20 January).

Tickets for all shows are available now; for a full breakdown of booking details, see theGuide.
