She doesn't want us to forget about her.

More Molly Ringwald More Molly Ringwald

Molly Ringwald was a household name in the 80s thanks to her roles in the teen film classics Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club. Now, well assuming the acting roles have probably dried up a little, she's turned into a jazz singer. We didn't really see that coming either.

Ringwald will release Except Sometimes, a collection of tracks that pay homage to the Great American Songbook. There's also a cover of Don't You (Forget About Me), which of course was the hit song from The Breakfast Club. Yep, obviously the starlet is not forgetting about her time in weekend school detention anytime soon.

We've got excerpts from the album here for you to listen to. And hey, the idea that Ringwald could make a career as a recording artist is not as crazy as you may think. Her father Bob Ringwald is an acclaimed jazz pianist and she has enjoyed a a number of stints on Broadway, including a turn as Sally Bowles in Cabaret. The lady can carry a tune but we'll let you be the judge on this one.

The record is available from Friday 5 April.
