The Newcastle band will release their sophomore extended player this week.
Newcastle emo/pop-punk four-piece Paper Thin have crafted a gorgeously rendered snapshot of young-adult angst and optimism on their sophomore EP, Living With. Being Without., proudly premiering today on theMusic.com.au ahead of its release later this week.
The group have come along in leaps and bounds since first convening in April last year, delivering their first EP — and a couple of well-received singles — not long after.
In the intervening time, they've honed their skills with the kind of DIY determination so bountiful among groups of their ilk, and Living With. Being Without. stands as testament to their ever-growing panache for punchy, contemplative and conversational jams, carrying a core honesty and authenticity that makes it incredibly difficult not to swiftly fall for the affable musos creating these songs.
Recorded in the township of Paterson with Matt Taylor (Safe Hands/Delta Lions) back in May, Living With. Being Without. was preceded by the release of well-received single — and live favourite — When You Call (featuring guest vocals from Sydney singer-songwriter Grace Turner), which sets the tone for the record with its Appleseed Cast-esque arpeggios and drum rolls and bassist Spencer Scott's Smith Street-style, unabashedly Australian vocals.

London hits the sweet spot between upbeat and heartfelt — perhaps a little of The Early November shining through there? — while Post-It Note's anthemic, fist-pumping refrain of 'Do you think we'll make it out alive? Do you think we'll make it out tonight?' is straight-up glorious power-pop goodness. Closing with the rolling, energetic Scared Of Flying, the EP makes it clear in four tight songs that the band possess a breadth of influences that they're more than capable of wielding and welding together to create something — inextricably Novocastrian — all of their own.
Living With. Being Without. will be released this Wednesday, 13 September, via Lost Boy Records.
The band will launch the EP at The Cambridge Hotel Sidebar on Sunday 15 October, with Self Talk, Safe Hands and Wicking Out DJs.
Before that, they'll play Weekender Fest on Friday 15 September in Melbourne.
