Celebrated singer-songwriter Karl S Williams is about to kick off a 15-date east-coast tour at the start of next month but, before he hits the road, he's unveiled his killer new single Blood To Give, proudly premiering on theMusic.com.au today.

Starting bluesy but blossoming into a highly boogie-worthy affair, the tune features catchy hooks, Williams' distinct, raw but warm vocals and an earthy, hard-travellin' troubadour vibe that propels the song through its infectious three-minute run.

Produced and recorded by Matt Redlich (Holy Holy/Ball Park Music/Emma Louise/Husky) — a man that Williams says he has "long admired" — the tune encapsulates an honesty and earnestness for which the muso has become well known.

"He imagined a perfect landscape for the song to exist within," Williams said of his experience with Redlich, before delving a little deeper into the background of the song.

"Life is hard and unkind to all of us at times; I guess I went digging for suitable metaphors for that experience," he said. "In some ways, the song is also an address to an industry wherein the sensitive are shepherded inexporably toward the precipice."

Despite that fairly weighty reflection, Williams says "there is no malice or self-pity" behind the song's themes. "It is to be played loudly, and I hope that if people sing and dance along, they will find that their burden is made lighter for a little while."

Williams will set off for his wide-ranging tour from Saturday 2 September, when he warms things up with an outing at the Wintermoon Spring Festival, in Camerons Pocket. The run also entails headline and festival shows in Newtown, Newcastle, Bulli, Cronulla, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Northcote, Geelong, Caloundra, Port Macquarie, Red Hill, Castlemaine and Kyneton — so if you've any inclination to catch him in action over the next couple of months, you've ample opportunities to do so if you're in the area.
