ALBUM PREMIERE: Bayharbour - Time Lapse

Hard-hitting Brisbane-bred metalcore crew Bayharbour have navigated their fair share of ups and downs over the past few years, and the sum of those experiences is about to be unleashed at the end of the week in the form of their eagerly awaited debut LP, Time Lapse.

Easing into, and then shaking off, the lush welcome of sub-minute opener Perception, the breakneck ferocity of second cut Cancerous doesn't just grab the listener, but downright violently seizes them and pulls them along, in thrall to the brute power on display, for the imminent ride.

The band's beastly soundscapes make deft use of furious, melodic-yet-meaty instrumentation underneath guttural vocal work, all punctuated with soaring harmonies and a never-say-die attitude that permeates every song on the 12-track release. There's even the odd guest appearance, including a stunning uncredited contribution on A Departure and the presence of Zachary Britt (Dream On Dreamer) on Fading Away.

The playlist includes some known entities — including singles such as the fundamentally hectic Life In The Clouds, Stargazing and Gravemind — but is packed nonetheless with a cornucopia of surprises and delights, especially if you possess a penchant for the kind of considered cacophony over which these guys exercise such expert control. According to drummer/vocalist Nat Patterson, the full-length deals in themes of, and the relationship between, temporality and humanity.

"Time Lapse is an album that looks inwards and reflects on how time changes us, how time accelerates as we get older and how time is a constant," Patterson said in a statement. "The album looks at ways time affects our lives, changes us, breaks us and destroys us as humans."

You can catch Bayharbour busting out a solid chunk of the record when they hit the stage at Crowbar as local supports for the impending Make Them Suffer show at the venue, joined by DVSR, Iconoclast and Foxblood. It all goes down on Thursday 8 December; tickets are available now, and more info is available at the event page.

It'll be Bayharbour's last show for the year, so if you can't get out and help them see off 2016, hit them up on Facebook and keep an eye on their movements in the new year.

Time Lapse will be released this Friday, 2 December, via iTunes, Bandcamp, and on physical formats.
