More Tom West More Tom West

Adelaide indie-folk troubadour Tom West has just hit the road for a year-ending burst of shows, knocking over his first stop in Sydney on Wednesday night and now on the eve of his second outing of the run, in Armidale.

Amid the activity, West has found the time to release new single All My Friends Are Scientists, which we at The Music are humbled to be premiering for you this fine Friday.

The track is a pulsing, driven and dexterous affair, and the first single from his upcoming full-length, set for release in mid-2017. West's crisp vocals proving themselves capable of both upper-register power and low-end delicacy, while four-to-the-floor bass kicks and arpeggiated guitar give way to rolling toms-heavy percussion, splashes of piano and other nuanced inclusions that help keep All My Friends Are Scientists an engaging and atmospheric proposition from start to finish.

It was recorded with a group of mates over a week spent nestled up in the hills at the studio of Adelaide muso Todd Sibbin and, as you can hear for yourself, the effort has paid off in a big way.

West has stops scheduled in Byron Bay, Robina, Nambour, Brisbane, Melbourne and back home in Adelaide over the next month, so there are plenty of opportunities to get out and see him in action before the new year hits and he gets all caught up in his album release. Although, on the plus side, that will undoubtedly only mean the announcement of another tour at some stage in 2017. That's definitely the hope from here.

Still, no sense waiting if you don't have to; for full a list of venues, dates and other details on his immediate run, see theGuide.
