"We exited the venue with adrenaline pumping through our veins and sweat dripping from our limbs."
It was almost a full house when Horror My Friend graced the stage. Serving up idiosyncratic indie-rock that emulates a circa-'90s sound, the Adelaide trio powered through a solid set. Energies were high from the band and the crowd was getting amongst it, singing along to known tracks from their excellent debut Stay In, Do Nothing. These up and comers are ones to watch.
Just when the rumour mill suggested we’d seen the last of Gyroscope, they have re-entered the fold; marking the occasion with their first new tracks in seven years. And whilst tonight’s show was dedicated to celebrating this, everyone was raring for a reunion show – which the four-piece delivered.
Plucking grunge-laden tracks from Sound Shattering Sound, and more restrained tunes from Cohesion; the set ensured the energy in the room didn’t wane.
The opening guitar riff in What Do I Know About Pain? sounded as fun as it does on record, while the downbeat OK queued a massive sing/scream along. A hefty amount of headbanging occurred throughout raw tracks Doctor Doctor and Beware Wolf, with the massive circle pit flaring up each time the band launched into one of their iconic, thrashing choruses.

Fast Girl was epic; improved by the band transitioning into the massive Beds Are Burning, which brought out our patriotic side. While screaming the lyrics of Baby, I’m Getting Better back to Daniel Sanders was cathartic.
New track Crooked Thoughts slotted in nicely towards the end of their set, but paled in comparison to Snakeskin - which the crowd collectively lost their shit to. An encore was teased, but Gyroscope ultimately left us high and dry.
We exited the venue with adrenaline pumping through our veins and sweat dripping from our limbs – the best indicators of a good rock show.
