Live Review: Short Stack, Storm The Sky, Day Break, Move On Be Strong, Avastera

With a small delay, Avastera finally graced the stage in front of an adoring crowd, kicking off their set with Last Letter and Breathing Hope. Dylan Symonds' screams and vocals shone on their cover of The 1975's Robbers. A killer set that didn't disappoint.

Move On, Be Strong gave off a 5 Seconds Of Summer vibe with their sound and look. I Want and Make It sent the crowd wild while their Techno Fan cover was interesting but lacked the spark The Wombats give it. Day Break could only be described as aggressive, with lead singer Marcus Passey singing like he was going through a rough break-up. Angus and a cover of The Killers' Mr Brightside were the highlights of the set.

Storm The Sky's energy exploded on stage, bodies jumping and heads banging. Daniel Breen's screams were missing, and while Will Jarratt tried to replace them the signature roars weren't there to give the set the spark it needed.

With chants and squeals filling the air as the lights dimmed, Short Stack graced the stage to a crowd full of screaming adolescent girls before launching into Homecoming. The infectious tune Shimmy A Go Go got the theatre moving while The Back Of My Head brought the crowd to a more mellow sway.

Elvis and Bambi got those dancing shoes moving before Ladies & Gentlemen got the crowd soaking in the old school 'Stack. Between bubbles, beach balls and a floating condom or two, Short Stack kept the crowd entertained with hilarious conversations. Princess was like an anthem; every girl was singing along as Shaun Diviney rocked the guitar before drummer Bradie Webb showed off his incredible skills — the beat was felt throughout the theatre.

Guitar in hand, Diviney played Gravity solo, vocally hitting all the right notes and showing the crowd that he isn't just a pretty face. Sweet December brought back memories before the final song of the set Dance With Me proved the band pretty much give no fucks.

The encore saw We Dance To A Different Disco, Honey and Sway Sway Baby ending the night on a high, as the crowd became a mosh of jumping girls screaming their lungs out to every last word. Short Stack were far from short, pleasing all ages, even those who were there to relive their youth; but maybe turn down the swearing for an all ages show next time.
